Stealth Tanker

in WW2 U boats delibrately targeted tankers because of their valuable cargoes. Would it have been possible to build a Tanker that looked like a standard cargo ship but could still function as a tanker.

or at least take a T2 Tanker and  erect a fake deck cargo and some dummy  cargo handling gear to make it less obvious that she was a tanker.
