I have some questions here reading the YF-17 Cobra in regards to how it compared with the YF-16

  • Most sources state that the YF-16 had better overall instantaneous and sustained agility characteristics at intermediate and high airspeeds with the YF-17 doing better at lower airspeeds and high alphas; some sources they were quite close in performance and other states that the YF-16 could dump and regain airspeed substantially faster.
  • Some sources list the YF-16 and F-16 as having a higher top-end speed, yet other sources list the YF-17A as having a higher top-end speed
  • Some sources say the reason the LWF program comprising the YF-16 and YF-17 was to require one aircraft to have a single engine and the other with twin-engines because the USAF wanted single and twin-engined demonstrators; a documentary on Colonel Boyd stated that the General in charge rejected Boyd's recommendation for both designs to be single engined designs because "he couldn't imagine a single engined fighter" being successful.
....
I'm working on a WHIF design which I'm thinking could easily be summed up as a YF-17 with a single F-100 and chine-shelves to keep the rear fuselage as wide as it actually was.

What do you guys think?
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

I think you should do it and show us what comes out of it.

Northrop had the P-610 design (concept?) for a single engine F-17

There might be pictures on secretprojects but I', trying not to join any more forums...

Looks like a good idea to me too.  I'll post a thread on the art-forum and see if I can get somebody to whip it up.
