Early P-47D whiff

A while ago, I had an idea with a rather interesting backstory. What if, instead of surrendering to the Allies in 1945, the Germans become allies with the British and Americans? They start using American equipment, simply because it's as good or better than theirs, but also with their armament and/or engines. This is a profile of a license-built early P-47D Thunderbolt in service with JG 45 on the Eastern Front on December 28, 1949.




The engine is a BMW 801F radial of 2,400 PS (2,367 HP). It is armed with 4 MG 151/20 cannons in the wings and 2 MG 131 machine guns in the nose.

I have my eye on a Revel(?) P-47C in 1/24 scale. Does anyone know of a good, high quality 801 and nacelle, preferably of the same scale?

I'd assume that the BMW 801 is rather small for a P-47 - it just had 14 cylinders, while the P-47 sported a much bigger 18 cylinder engine. With that big original powerplant, finding a suitable German engine is.. problematic. I suppose you could even implant a DB 606 twin-V12 engine (from the He 177 bomber) into a Thunderbolt without making it look "wrong".

I wonder if you could put that engine on a Mustang and get it to work? Radial engine Mustang....hmmmm.
