I've experimented with very fine bubble wrap on the  Revel/Airfix 1/144 Lockheed Sea Shadow Hovercraft, to give it some texture on the side panels. It will look 'mean and moody' when sprayed mat black.

A long time ago I "conceived" making an F5U "Flying Pancake" with the top painted like a pancake, complete with runny butter and syrup. I was thinking of scanning a pancake-mix box and making a large decal from it (1/72), but the contours of the aircraft would make it difficult to lay it down. So I will "imitate" the look somehow. Still, it aptly fits your "Food as camo" idea.

And no, you are not "sounding like a nutter"--we both know you ARE one (and we wouldn't have it any other way!)
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

And paint bombs to look like pork breakfast sausages?    (ducks and runs)
