Lovely projects both!

Thinking I'd like to join in, but what to do? Hmmm.....
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Well, my 'Gnat F3' idea is as follows:

  • It's a single-seater (of course).
  • The pilot's seat is essentially where the so-called 'real' T1's rear seat is but is raised.
  • The nose area ahead of the instrument panel is adapted to take a radar, but the overall fuselage length isn't changed (well, not significantly).
  • Think of it in terms of how the Hawk 200 evolved from the original Hawk T1 and you'll get the idea.

Go ahead, fill your boots - I know I'm never going to get round to doing it, but would love to see it done by someone else.

If I get involved I'm thinking single seater for the RNZAF. Was wondering if I do it wether it should have slightly larger/stronger undercarriage to enable rough field landings and some weapons carriage ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Wooksta!

I still want to do the Vulcan with three nuclear armed Gnats slung underneath.  Got the Vulcan and four Matchbox Gnats to go with it.  The lack of WE177s put paid to my nefarious plan.

Have unmanned Gnats as the weapons - a sort of a Ryan Firebee equivalent.

It was the actual RAF plan I wanted to do - see Project Cancelled for more.

As for unmanned stand off, eventually I'll be doing a Lincoln/Lancaster hybrid with a Miles 52M as a stand off bomb for taking out u-boat pens.

Colin does some for the old SAMI TSR.2 set, I'm sure he'd sell you a handful if you ask him nicely.  They are WE.177B/C's, the Gnats would have probably used the WE.177A so you'd need to get the razor saw out.

Failing that, Belcher bits do the A model (also B/C) as part of a larger RAF nuke set.  He's in Canada, but it might be worth a quick email to see if he'll sell you them seperately.

If you want to go the Belcher Bits route I'd go shares on the other weapons in the set.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Noted.  I'll take you up on it but not for a while.  Too many propellery things to do first!
