Had to laugh at myself today. And it's perfect timing too, as recently been thinking/ talking and building from my trip to Texas....anyway, I'll get on with it

While I'm building a pair of Hornets, I thought I'd go dig thru my stash of 144th scale kits to look for weaponry. Found these two, graciously donated to the cause, while I ate his food and drank his beer, by our very own Brad aka Scooterman.

This is when I had to laugh. Last year I tore apart my modelling areas looking for a second OH-58D kit. I knew I had it. I knew I bought that second one down in Texas ! Alas, I never did find it. Fast forward to tonite.

The F-16XL box actually contained an old AMT/Frog Mossie, as well as somebody's P-51B ? Apache maybe ? While the F-1 box contained two F-1 kits, the F-16XL kit, as well as the OH-58D ! I had forgot all about them ! I was going to ship all this booty back via inter-company mail, but since it was personal belongings and not work related, I had to unpack everything and somehow make it fit into what bags I had to carry back ! Hence the triple-boxings.....ah, good times, good times....

The P.51  looks like the Frog P51A.  Nice little kit, if a bit basic.

LOL....that's why I love this place !

Wooksta ! It does look a bit basic, has some funky rivets etc. around the nose, but with those types of details it makes it one of those kits that look mean and nasty. Well, to me, anyway.

Upon further digging I've found that the original Frog Mossie purchase was to build a Griffon engined Sea Mossie, but after losing said kit I went and bought an Airfix Mossie. Now I've found another long lost project....

Replace the Frog Mosquito engines with something German (DB603 or DB605 - Matchbox 410 engines are ideal) and do the Finnish copy Mosquito...

You may need to do some filling to get the engines to blend in but it could look good.

Sounds interesting. Don't think i've ever seen that version of a Mossie. I've always wanted to do a Merlin engined Beaufighter, but I think that would look better more traditional, by using Lanc engines.

It was never built although the Finns were very keen.  Even nemed it, the Vihuri?  My spelling is way off.

Scroll down the page of the second link and there's a nice conversion artoicle to turn an Airfix Mosquito into the Argentinian Calquin.

I've occasionally entertained the thought of grafting a pair of Bristol Hercules on to a Mosquito to make a spoof Calquin.
