I'm wondering why there are too intakes on the XA-41 (one top, one bottom).  Why not just put one big intake on the bottom?
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

IIRC, many R-4360s used a downdraft carb so its air was taken in at the top. The lower intake was probably for the blower or oil cooler(s). If I'm not mistaken, that's why the F2G has an upper air intake.

How come the XF8B doesn't have such a set-up?

Maybe a different dash model -4360 with different carb set-up and / or ducting. Not all R-4360 powered aircraft used the same version.

Different aircraft, designed by a different company, for a different purpose.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<
