I've tried before over at the IPMS but without luck. A million Luftwaffe fans and no one seems to be able to identify the emblem on this superb machine:

any help much appreciated.

Can't help you, really, but I did find this interesting on-line document whilst looking around for you;

Thanks Guy. Enjoyed that :thumbsup:.

It's the spinners that fascinate me. There are photos of a He-177 of KG100, transferred from KG4, with exact same spinners but I cannot pin down the emblem. Oh well, might paint it up in shades of whif...

The 88 is a later P with the shortened gondola with a 50mm cannon, rather than the P-1 with the longer gondolla and the 75mm PaK 40 or the later one with the twin 37mm mounting.

To be fair, it's a pretty small photo - a hi res scan in a decent size would make life a bit easier.

I hope this image is better. It was taken from EBAY when a collection of original photos was up for sale. Never seen it before or since. It's apparently a P-4 but just maybe a later P-3.

If you are after the spinner colors, knowing the aircraft code could help. Colors were - at least early during the war - attached to the groups within a squadron, and the tactical code would display that, including a letter of the respective group color.

From the pic I'd say, though, that it is a black and white marking, with a colored ring - the latter could show to which group within the squadron the aircraft belonged to, but knowing the squadron (probably a KG or maybe an EK) itself won't help much. It could even be an individual marking.

This is a better known photo, unfortunately a propeller blade is obscuring the badge:

The use of a fighter number is interesting, some Schlacht groups adopted this. The closest match I can make for the emblem is possibly II/JG51 from the last months of the war. A real mystery.

Squadron codes would have assisted greatly but... :rolleyes: ...sometimes luck ain't on your side.

Dragging this one back up, haven't quit just yet but has anyone ever heard of Kampfgruppe 208 (KG208)? I was considering doing something to a JU 188 (nice glasshouse on wings) and one of the marking options is for this gruppe. Can't find anything about it :unsure:.
