My point was that, in broad conceptual terms, the AH-1 was like a cross between a big, twin-engined Skyhawk and a Navy F-105. Put it another way: if you wanted a naval equivalent to the F-105 and you got it by scaling up the A-4 and making it supersonic, you'd end up with something pretty much akin to the AH-1.

You then made a detailed design point about the A-4's wing. It's perfectly correct, but irrelevent to my argument. I wasn't saying that the AH-1 was literally a "big, supersonic Skyhawk" in every detail, just that that was a useful way to think about it's character.

Still, the F-4 couldn't fly as fast at low-altitude with large load as could the F-105 which was often a cited complaint; it couldn't fly as far while going fast either.  It's ride was rough at low-altitude and that sometimes posed structural issues in maneuvers.
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

This is getting a LONG way off the 'F-102 Ideas......' thread title, isn't it?  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Wellll it's all about creating a backstory that gives the F-102 a "second life" after it's superceded as an interceptor.

Does anybody have any idea how much weight a weapons pack would have added to the F-102 or F-106 (assuming a 1-piece bay)?
