There are two categories of interest which could make some interesting ideas

1.) Unlimited

Everybody has probably heard of the Rare-Bear, right?  It's a heavily modified F8F with an R-3350 as well as an extended tail, streamlined canopy, and so on.  It's actually did over 500 mph at least once.

Imagine a "Killer Bear" with an R-4360 and a contra-rotating prop arrangement.  Not sure what the rules are but that would frakking rock.

2.) Jet

Requirements are no afterburner and a wingsweep less than 15-degrees.  Still that leaves lots of possiblities...
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

1) Carbon fibre replica Spitfire, Griffon, maybe contra-props, revised cooling arrangement and cabin arrangement.

how about a Fokker f1 done in carbon? gonna be a winner as it would be the only one in the tri-plane class.!!

Unlimited Class is, well, unlimited. Some time ago a minimum weight was introduced, but that's all.

AFAIK, there are even conversion sets for race aircraft.

I think one of the 'limitations' of the Unlimited Class is piston engines, so create a new class for turboprops?  Should be plenty of old T55's and T56's about, a good smattering of Tynes and even some Russian Kusznetstov NK-12 monsters....
:drink:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Truly unlimited should IMHO include jets as well ;)...

Would be marching to the beat of his own drum, if he didn't detest marching to any drumbeat at all so much.

I already considered a Shinden racer for some time - built an anime version some time ago (OOB! A Hasegawa kit for the domestic market), and it looked nice!
