CA-15 "Brumby" of 79 Sqd RAAF Java 1946

In late 1945 79 Sqd converted from Spitfire VIII's to the newly developed Commonwealth Aircraft CA-15 Brumby in time to take their new aircraft to newly liberated airfield on the island of Java. After the first few days of the invasion there was very little Japanese air activity although a constant watch had to be kept on the skies for Japanese Kamikaze missions. After a few months of mainly fruitless patrols the Brumbies were armed with bombs and rockets and contributed to the eventual allied victory on the island by supplying close air support to the troops on the ground. This was a role they were to repeat in Korea a few years latter.

Kit is the Czech Master one and is one of their middle period kits. Went together very well and needed very little filler. I used drop tanks from an Airfix P51 and in all honesty I've fitted them to far to the rear and they would probably foul the flaps in real life.  :banghead:Markings are mainly from the kit although they took ages to come off the backing sheet and then wanted to break up  :banghead: The personal marking is from a Ventura Spitfire VIII and should really be Mac IV, but I wasn't going to try and mess with it  Paints are from the Lifecolor Australian AF set and are very good.

I enjoyed this project a lot

Beautiful job on that!

I've always been struck by the resemblance between the CA-15 and the Martin Baker MB-5, wondered if there was a little 'technology transfer' going on.

More P-51 influence although I know where you are coming from
