I think one of the resident Swedes on ARC hinted at an injection-moulded 1/48 Lansen coming from a new Swedish outfit some time ago. Can't find a link, though.

Viggen! Viggen! Viggen! Viggen! Viggen! Viggen! Viggen!

Exotic - found it in a news ad in the Hobby Japan magazine: Tarangus is doing a 1:72 Saab J 29 Tunnan A/B (the early variant, without the dogtooth wing) as an IP kit. Wills surely cost its weight in gold, though...

Looks like it came outlast month so worth checking local retailers to see if any in stock

They have a distributor in the UK, and you get them on ebay, too - pricey, though... not certain if the world is THAT desperate for this kind of kit?

Captain Canada

Wow that's pricey. Are the kits that nice ? Seems to me you could botch a half dozen of the old Heller/ Airfix kits for that sum !

CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

£25 for a 1/172 Tunnan?   :o

That's RIDICULOUS, they don't deserve to sell a single one, but I expect they will..........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It does look rather nice, far better than the old Airfix or Matchbox kits, but there's no way I can justify that sort of money.

There is a bag of resin bits in with the kit, which if sold by themselves (by Quickboost etc) would probably run to £8-9 or so, so that brings the plastic down to ~£15, about right for a short-run IP fighter.

I hope they'll sell a ton of 'em!  Each Tunnan they sell gets us closer to a new 1/72 Viggen!

Yeah, 25 bucks aren't exactly cheap, but we're looking at a niche firm catering to a niche market in a niche hobby here. I mean, sure, you can wait for one of the big shots to release a newly-tooled Tunnan, but don't hold your breath. You'd be lucky if Airfix or Revell did it. Then it might be around half of the price, but certainly not much less. The again, Revell was sort of underwhelmed by sales of their 1/72 Hunter, I'm sure they won't consider a classic jet (let alone a rather obscure one) again  in a hurry. Airfix? There's a host of classic British jets they could do first that would sell far better than a Tunnan. If Trumpeter does it, it'll be marginally cheaper than the Tarangus offering, but you'd have to throw resin worth another kit at it to correct the stupid mistakes that could have been avoided by a modicum of proper research. Maybe Dragon? Same situation as Trumpeter, but even pricier to begin with. One of the small Czech firms? They wouldn't probably be all that much cheaper.
And the effort in cost or time required to bring the Heller kit up to snuff, either in terms of resin or scratch-building, isn't exactly small either.

Moritz

Oh, yeah, sorry, 25 quid, not 25 bucks.  :banghead: Somehow I thought I had mentioned GBP in the post, but that probably got lost in some editing before posting.
