Radish

Built as a "Short" flying boat, based on a front cover of a foreign publication of a Biggles book....I'll try and find the cover.
1/72nd VEB (old East German) kit, very basic, no interior and no cockpit, just a flat surface. I added a few lumps, bumps and heads inside the conopy, painted everything black. It's pretty much straight from the box, except for filler and various pieces of plastic strip added for detailing the airframe.
Sprayed with Halford's Grey Primer, it was weathered with lots of smearing of Fortress Grey (Games Workshop), followed by a blue/grey wash.
The upper surfaces are Tamiya Desert Sand and Dark Green.
Weathering mostly with a HB pencil, a finger and a bit of silver pencil.
Decals from an Airfix Sunderland and Italeri C-47.
A lorra, lorra fun and very easy to build (but the wings HAD to be superglued!), I've bought another 3 to add to the one I've still got in stock.

Very, very nice! Looks just natural.

Did they, by any chance, do a Be-12 as well?

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Beautiful for "just" a flat surface! Love the colour scheme.

Spey_Phantom

looks so good in WW2 RAF markigs, gorgious
i got 2 revell Be-6's in the stash, perhaps i would build one as a WW2 US Navy pacific fleet plane  ;D

thanks for the idea

-all kinds of things.

Sadly there's no Be-12 apart (I think) from a very expensive resin one.

A USN Be-6 would look terrific!! Especially in that triple colour scheme of white, sea blue and intermediate blue. All faded, dirty, etc..

I'm thinking of doing a Chinese Qing version, possibly.

But I think it'd look terrific in Egyptian markings on a "Nile" camouflaged aircraft. With bombs added of course.

There's also a Be-12 vac kit from Sanger, IIRC. A USN Be-6, IMHO, would look a lot like a Martin Mariner in USN markings......

Too bad, really. :( Gekko did some pretty cool profiles for Be-12s.

BTW: there IS a 1:72 Be-12 available as an IP kit; ModelSvit recently launched one, but it is not cheap...

I also have a converted Be-6 on the agenda. RAF use, late WWII, SEAC theatre... Got the kit, decals and even donation parts, but not tghe nerve to tackle such a literally huge project.  ;)

With so many Be-6s around, almost sounds like another GB idea (LOL).
