According to the Aerosmith Biog I read a while back when they were first looking at hiring a plane they sent Joe Perry's dad to check them out as he was a pilot or former pilot.  He went to look at one plane they were keen on but came back telling them not to touch it with a bargepole as the pilot & co-pilot had offered him a bang on a joint while in the air.
That plane was the Convair Lynyrd Skynyrd later hired...

Bruce did a documentary series on the telly called "Flying Heavy Metal". Very enjoyable, he's a natural on screen and loves his subject. Adores the 757; the most overpowered airliner in service at the time, as he puts it.
