Outwards for me - and I can't wait to see her finished
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Just 2 extra questions:
- modelism technical: how is it possible to glue temporarily, the way was done here? glued-outwards/picture/removed/glued-inwards/picture... if I had wanted to do that, I would have felt this is impossible...
- aircraft technical: this little Vampire Bat has very short booms, so the short-distant tail has not much force, is that half-way to a flying-wing?

I just tacked them on with a tiny dab of superglue.  Last night when I was working on the tail final configuration (outwards) I just sanded the residue off before final gluing.

I'm no engineer, but I ususally try to make my whiffs practical.  I dont know if this thing would fly or not, but it just looked neater than a real Vampire.  One of the early Supermarine or AW jets (cant remember the name-before the Attacker I think) had a "V" tail, so the idea was around then, and the Beech Bonanza came out in 47 with a V tail design that stuck around until the late 80s.

In the real world this design might need some tinkering with the wing to move the center of lift forward to provide more of an arm for the tail surfaces.  That would also require moving the gear forward so that it sits ahead of the CG since this is a taildragger (no tailwheel, but skids on each boom).

I imagine the short coupled controls would make this thing a handful to fly, but the old adage before CAD was "if it looks good, it'll fly good".

I'm hoping to get it painted today and decalled tomorrow if my flight out isnt until evening.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Yep, like them outwards best, too.  Great idea.

Tophe, there are some modeling glues out there specifically "formulated" (likely just diluted white glue mixed with a bit of latex rubber) for temporarily test-fitting light-weight parts such as gear doors and such.

One that I use is Microscale's "Micro Liquitape" (see pic).  This is great stuff, especially if you've got a piece you want to test-fit and then hit with a touch of CA glue to make the joint solid once you're confident it is positioned correctly.  Some modeler's also use it for being able to temporarily attach things like canopies, access panels, fuel-tanks and other stores that they might want to detach or mix and match later.
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Ordinary wood glue also works: it softens when you soak it in water.

Thanks for the details about temporary glue :)
Well, I came here again from the finished-VampireBat-topic, trying to find another info that puzzles me :( : where the tailplanes come from? A P-47 kit? :)

Good eye Tophe!

The tail surfaces are from a crappy 1/48 Testors P-47.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Nice!
But: P-47 1/48 tailplanes on a Vampire 1/72 model? :D  Or just Vampire 1/48, almost possible also out of our modellers' Universe, not needing us, sadly... :(

Actually the model is 1/48.
