Got an idea for a B45

The other night, while doing a basic search(meaning I was all over the internet looking for possible modeling projects, and generally having a ball by just plain looking), I came upon a blog that was titled, The Unwanted blog.

Scrolling down, I came upon an illustration of a B45 that looked a bit.....off.

At the bottom of the caption of the illustration is the line that this was a 1950 concept of North American Aviation for a B-45C Aircraft Missile.

What looks odd about this is in the nose. The cockpit is gone, and the nose is kind of square, with something that looks like a small dome(very small) in the approximate location of the back of the greenhouse canopy on the conventional B-45.

In essence, in today's nomenclature, a cruise missile.

And, this doesn't seem as strange as it might, as during WW2, old and tired B17s were equipped with remote control, and while they launched with a pilot who eventually bailed out, the control of the bomber being performed by a chase plane, and being loaded with explosives, were tested against mountains and similar.

And after WW2, there was a series of Hellcats which launched off the carrier without a pilot, and performed various duties such as flying through the cloud after a nuclear explosion. And this was after WW2, the technology being developed beyond what was used in the remote B17s.

So, by 1950, there might have been the possibility that a drone B-45 would be theoretically possible.

And, theoretically possible or not, it would still make for an interesting build.

Here is the web address in case anyone might want to take a look for themselves, because there is quite a bit to choose from:

It's this one:

If that fails just enter "B-45C" in the Search box and it'll come up.
What if... I had a brain?

Hopefully, I'll be able to do this right.

Here is a B-45

No, I couldn't C&P the pic(sorry)

That would save having to use the disaster that is the Mach 2 B-45 kit's canopy anyway!

Actually,  the class of bomber that it is in is a tad older than the Canberra.

The bomber most like it is the Ilyushin Il28 Beagle.

Same vintage, about the same structurally, same speed range, although the Beagle went on to soldier a lot longer than the Tornado.

Here is an article from my very good friends, and yours, Wikipedia:

Their first flights were only two years apart....

In which case the phrase "a tad older" is entirely appropriate! ;)

True, but the aircraft I had in mind as it being  very similar to was the Ilyushin Beagle
