That's the Boeing 720 kit that's just been released by Roden, and it's in the scheme you show in the first link.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I have it in mind one day to do my other Skyvan as Budgie's "tour bus" for their "World Tour of Wales"..... ;)

(For the uninitiated, Budgie was/is a Welsh heavy rock band with slightly less budget than Zep or Maiden, and "The 5-ton Budgie" was one of the many nicknames of the Short's Skyvan.)

By the truly excellent Philip Castle. Check out some of the escort planes: Castle is a serious aircraft enthusiast. I've got a couple of his books and in one there's a picture of his studio, with boxes and boxes of built-up model kits which he uses for reference.

Heh heh heh.  I remember Budgie.  I may even have an LP somewhere...

i'm planning to build this anyway this year so it'll fit right in if this group build gets up and running.

Anyone know where I can get a 1/48 Rock Band... ;D

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Maybe a Spackman Turner Overdrive tour bus/plane could appear in this and the 'Following in the footsteps of the P.R.19' theme build?

Nice.  Thanks.  But i've got a 1/48 Mongogram kit to build it from (fits on an LP sleeve better).

I like this one

Just noticed that this decal sheet from S&M has a BEA Whirlwind on it with "tles" added to the BEA. Apparently it appeared in A Hard Day's Night.
