Thanks a lot to everyone! Well, I kept the flaps down in all pics, even the flying ones, as I wanted to keep editing (landing gear only) to a minimum. It sometimes looks a bit weird, esp. when you see it directly, but my "excuse" is similar to what Captain Canada posted: getting in sync with the camera ship. But eventually it's just a minor issue to me - the model is what counts, and the overall impression.

A late addendum: This one here popped up on FlickR as a response to my recent "XP-47H-wth-bubble-canopy" build, created by modeler and illustrator FrancLab from Canada:

Not bad, eh?  Who builds it? ;)

Now that is a wicked idea

My clinical mind though spots a problem, the wing spar would go right through the engine.  There's two ways for solving that I think, drop the engine down a bit, or move the engine back so the engine front is behind the spar

I think it could work, with a rather small axial (or better two) engine(s). The P-59's jet engines were pretty small, as well as the F1H's and F2H's.

And a screen for the intake to block FOD from the nose wheel.

The P-59 engines were a pair of copies of the Power Jets W.1 engine Dizzy, what was found in a Meteor. Not what I'd call a small engine.  Now a pair of the F1H engines would be about right I think

I revive this thread due to a WONDROUS (and somewhat flattering!) find: check THIS

Found it in a Russian forum, accidently: http://forum.worldofwarplanes.ru/index.php?/topic/67246-%D0%B5%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B0-%D0%B8-thunderbolt/page__p__1766439

Certainly "my" P-47H (even the foamed plastic in the air outlet is recognizable), but I have no connection with this artwork, whatsoever.

But, there are worse forms of hijacking...?
