Seen one of these for sale on EuuuuwBay and wondered if any soul has experience building one? It's a type I admire (very Ginga like) and I've become wary of build reports on Google...not as honest as they could be. Seems OK but...... :-\.

NARSES2

I built one a couple of years ago and have a latter, what if boxing, in the stash.

It's from towards the end of their early period (almost sounds archaeological ?) and providing you take your time it goes together well. Time needs to be taken removing parts from the sprues and some cleaning up is necessary but nothing more then normal for the technology used. It's definitely short run technology but I definitely have no traumatic memories and thoroughly enjoyed the build.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Dug out the pics so you can see. The WIF boxing has a Ki-83 shooting down a Skyraider on the box top

That's really nice, like an elegant F7F. Really tempted to put in a bid....I need that acorn to grow a 1/72 oak ;D. Superb camo, must copy that sometime.

Thanks for the advice.

I have one in the large kit pile/vault/mountain - not started yet, but the kit looks very good. Second NARSES2's impression - typical short run kit, but anything you need is there, and you might need some care and effort to put things together, but it's a good kit, as far as I can tell.

IMHO, it is even more elegant than the F7F - actuall, the Tigercat looks like a massive brute next to the slender Ki-83. It sits there and looks... fast! Have no idea for mine, yet, but it deserves some IJA colors/markings. Thought baozut converting it into an all dark green night fighter, but haven't settled yet.

Was not aware that there had been a Whif boxing? Mine has the IJA prototype and USAF markings as options?

Nice looking bird!

I think the WHIF boxing was this one with the Ki-83 flying alongside a dark blue USN Skyraider - http://www.swannysmodels.com/Ki83.html
Not too far off given they were expected to be flying in the same timeframe in the same theatre.

Well, it's all academic now as I got distracted and missed the end of the auction. I only ever bid in the last 20-10 seconds (to avoid those filthy cheats with friends who bid up to your maximum then retract the last bid).

Occasionaly this catches me out and I miss a bargain:banghead:.

Ah, sorry about that. I didn't even know you could retract a bid  :banghead:

Anyway my reasoning for that camouflage was that she was being used over a riverine landscape.

This model is from that kit Dizzy. My other boxing is the one Nick has hi-lighted

If you put in a maximum bid then the unscrupulous seller has a mate who then bids in small increments until he becomes the high bidder. Then the seller retracts the last bid leaving you the winner but at your maximum bid. Two ways to check this:

1) You're told by e-mail you've been outbid followed shortly by an e-mail now telling you that you're the high bidder.

2) Go to Bid History and you can see one person bidding many times.

Happened to me twice. You must inform Ebay about this otherwise they do not know. Do not worry about neg feedback as this is removed. You can safely leave the seller neg feedback though. It's more common than most people think and most people don't even realised its happened.

The Wooksta!

Looks tempting. A captured one in RAF markings with a far east marked Hornet for comparative trials is tempting.

When I got tired of waking up at 3 a.m. in order to bid for something , I started using gixen, a sniping site. I have been using it for 3 years now, without problems, and it's free ( 6 $ per year the premium version). It bids for you in the last 6 seconds.
