Not an aircraft but is aircraft related is this 1/48 scale Tamiya Kettenkraftrad.

Expect to see this posed with the Ta 183 in the next month, the aircraft in these pictures is the Tamiya Me 262 built a few years back, despite the wild looking camouflage on it this is 100% real world proving real world paint schemes were not always boring. ;)

Nice!

I had to look up how the beast steered, had always wondered about that.  Seemed the front tire provided a bit of direction, but if you pulled the handlebars more the tracks would spilt, like a traditional bulldozer or tank. I would have thought the tire was useless.

In fact it pretty-much was, there was very little directional control with the tyre, I think they put it on for purely psychological reasons, given the handle-bar steering system actuated the brakes quite quickly when turned.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks for the comments!

I have seen some good footage of the Kettenkrads in action on Youtube, some of these videos show the steering of these things to good effect.

I finished this model before having that much information on the Kettenkrad and I made some mistakes on my model, I will be making another model and to make it more of a whiff it will be getting the Ambush scheme. The camouflage on the model in this thread was patterned after a real world Kettenkrad.

I always liked snake pattern, and the Krad is great also.

IIRC they were designed so you could remove the motorbike front end and just drive it as a small tank.
Good job.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Actually, I was watching some UK show on TV the other day (Combat/Blitz Pawn/Dealers? Something like that.) & they had bought a Kettenkraftrad without a front wheel. Once they'd tightened the arms connecting the handle-bars to the brake actuators it drove perfectly well.

Lovely little kit that Tamiya Kettenkrad, and a very nice job done on it too.  I had the one with starter kart but passed it onto HOG who used it in an excellent diorama.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thanks guys!

The Tamiya Kettenkrad is a wonderful little kit, since I mostly build aircraft I don't have too many ground vehicle kits in my stash but I have built the 1/48 scale Tamiya Schwimmwagen, Kubelwagen, and a couple start carts and they were all of very high quality with good detail for their tiny size.
Were it not for me being out of work for so long I would have already built the rest of Tamiya's line of 1/48 scale armor kits by now.
