The Wooksta!

Now, I don't know about you, but I think that at this time of night, I'm going to post some more Spitfires!

This was a salvage job after buying a load of part started Spits on ebay.  I think the guy was originally aiming for a mk XII as it's an Airfix Vb with a Frog Griffon grafted on.  It's now a Griffon engined PRIVg.  Unlikely ever to see the day again at a show as I think the finish is awful.

This was an experiment to see if lightning could strike again.  It's an old tool Airfix mk Ia fuselage married to a modified Airfix PRXIX wing, u/c and canopy.  Resin IX tailplanes and rudder, Aeroclub prop, and Airfix IXc exhausts.  It's a rebuilt PRIV with a Merlin 32, intended for the training units late war and this is a survivor in post war service as a hack.

Two shots of an FRXII built from the Xtrakit XII.  One of my least favourite of the finished work.  The kit didn't want to go together and the finish isn't too clever.  Unlikely ever to see daylight again.

Another shot of the PRXII seen upthread.

Two shots of an FRXIVc.

Two shots of the low back PRXIX.  Basically, a spare AZ mk XVIII fuselage married to an MPM XIX for everything else.  Really pleased with this one as it was a fairly easy conversion, although sorting out a canopy was a right arseache.

Three shots of an early PR XIX sans pressurisation basking in the late afternoon sun.

Finally, one of my favourites.  Clipped contra 19, intended for fast low level recce, hence the late war upper surface colours and the low level camera.

Great stuff Lee. All beauties. I think my fave is the PRXIX but the contra 19 is pretty close. Love the camo and stripes.

Great stuff there Lee, I like the low back XIX too, especially the PRDU codes. I think my Dad flew that one.   ;D

Nice looking collection of PR/FR Spitfires there
Which have given me a couple of ideas :
Really like the low back PR19
One thing puzzles me, what color are the very light colored
Ones?
Is it white?

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

That first one looks like the ultra-pale pink that 541 Sqdn. used for their low level evening and morning sorties.

In reality it was a lot paler than many of the model paint manufacturers would have us believe, most of their offerings would look better on the makeup shelves of Boots than in a model shop to my mind.

Lee's got it just about spot on, just faint hint of pink in an almost white background colour.

Indeed.  PRU Pink.  My recipe is a full bottle of Xtracrylic White with 5-6 DROPS or Red Arrows Red.

The bright sunlight probably makes it more gleaming than it is.  Mind, under the right lighting, pale green can appear whiter than white on a B/W telly.

Perfect!

I'll make a note of the recipe, thanks.

Just as an aside, the low level pink 'dicers' would fly along the N French coast from east to west in early morning out of the Sun, shooting with the port oblique camera, and in the opposite direction in the evening with the camera fitted to look out to starboard. Which is why there are some pics of early PR Spitfires with camera ports on the starboard side.
