Yellow over pink works perfectly.  Been doing that with prop tips for a few years now.

I always prime and always with Halfords primer.  Usually grey but I'll use the white for a light coloured airframe or Aluminium for NMF finishes. The latter is ideal for highlighting ANY flaw but doesn't like anything else over it, so I never use that as a primer for anything but NMF/Aluminium finishes.

You have to prime with Xtracrylics, as masking tape will tear it off an unprimed finish.  Ask how I know...
