I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but has there been discussion on a jet-powered version of the J7W canard fighter?

If so, has anyone modelled it? Got any pics?

The Wooksta!

Hasegawa themselves did a jet version of their 72nd kit, largely for the Japanese market but some escaped into the wild.  Several enterprising modellers have cloned the relevant parts and resin copies are out there.

Eddy at Blackbeard didn't have owt to do with said trade.

I had read in one of my books, perhaps Japanese Secret Projects, that the JW7 was originally intended to use a jet, but was changed to a pusher prop because of unavailability of the jet.

JayBee build No. 5.
Hasegawa 1/72 with resin clones from Renegade Resins.
I extended the rear of the fuselage by about quarter of an inch and fitted larger side intakes.

Yup. Got a set with three resin jet exhausts from Russia some time ago - I guess these were rather inofficially cloned from the Hasegawa conversion parts, though.
I'd also mount wider intakes, instead of the original ones plus their enlargements.

It's all in the name ;D.

The Hasegawa 1/48 resin parts are beautifully cast and fit like a dream, but I would certainly agree with larger intakes.

Tis indeed  ;D
I did a fair sized batch of them for the IPMS(UK) Japanese aircraft SIG a few years back. one or two escaped to certain august gentlemen who reside on this very forum

experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Size (of the stash) matters.

Looks like the only people who DIDN'T build a jet J7W were Kyushu!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The 1:48 (fpkclub post) kit does not look like a conversion at all - just the radial and the prop are missing?

I have two J7W's in the stash, both Hasegawa 1/72 scale with one of them being the SS19 boxing with the pre painted canopy which I picked up at the Scottish Nationals one year for £7 which also had the Eduard etched set. My other kit had the Renegade Resin conversion set but I have decided to swap the extras from one kit to the other for no reason than I can.

This can provide this Universe with the very first model of Zwilling Jet-Shinden, no? ;)
