Propellers

Been somewhat distracted of late with real world issues but could use some help with propeller science.

If an engine produces (for eg) 2000hp and this power is absorbed and turned to 'work' by a three bladed propeller with a total of X sq. ft, could a four bladed propeller have a smaller diameter if it covers the same sq.ft and so on. Could I use a small diameter six bladed propeller to equal a large diameter three bladed prop ?
