Airfix Scaling Down Reality - FREE TALK

17th February 2016

Simon Owen - Airfix Talk

FREE Talk - 13:30 lasting approx. one hour

Simon Owen, lead Researcher at Hornby Hobbies Ltd will be at Cosford on Wednesday 17 February to give an insight into the fascinating world of Airfix.

Simon's last talk at Cosford proved really popular, so he has kindly agreed to return for the second time.  He will explain how they take an iconic aircraft and scale it down to produce perfect replicas for today's modellers.

Covering a range of topics including the history of the company and the production process, Simon will be on hand to answer your questions at the end, so don't miss out on this perfect opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at Airfix HQ.

"Simon will be on hand to answer your questions" - When can we expect a new Rotodyne kit?
Fred

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Not likely unless they have got a real one to measure or detailed design & production drawings to create an accurate 3-D model to develop a kit from. I fear the Rotodyne would only be available again through the KitStarter programme now !
Project Cancelled SIG Secretary, specialising in post war British RN warships, RN and RAF aircraft projects. Also USN and Russian warships

There's not a lot left of the real one now, an 8 ft length of the fuselage, the rotor pylon, all four rotor blades not attached to anything and an engine/prop. That's about it I'm afraid.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

So scan that and scale the rest from photos.  What are they waiting for?

And, in the meantime, just produce a kit of what's there! :P

I'll settle for a re-pop of the old mold, depending on price I'd be good for two or three anyhow........
It takes only one drink to get me drunk. The trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth.

The mould needs work.  I have one of the last releases and it's flashy & has sink marks.  And with all those rivets sink marks are the last thing you want unless you are going to sand them all off anyway.

Flash and sinkmarks are often the result of how the mould is run (clamping pressure, injection pressure, cycle time etc.)
rather than a particular problem with the mould or its age.
