I am in need of a few of these for some builds I want to do, I have looked at Attack squadron and Heritage aviation but I really can justify the cost of the items for the amount I need, as I need 2 pairs. I will also need the baskets if possible too. I don't mind paying for these items, but the cost of them online is silly to me.

Do you mean the Douglas buddy refueling pods?  If so, I'm sure Freightdog Models do them!

Looks like Freightdog are out of stock at the moment: maybe ask Colin when they're due in again?

EDIT: Hannants still have them in stock: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/FDR72027

There's also a Buccaneer pod: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/FDR72028

I have looked at the ones on freightdog, and Heritage, and because of the number I need, I can't justify what they want for them. Same with the Attack squadron ones.

I ran into a similar lack of 1/72 refueling pods when doing a Harrier with buddy pods, so I scratched some up.  My back story used a modified fuel tank, so exact shape was not a concern.  I used a 1/48 jamming pod as it had the needed bumps for interest, but other 1/72 and 1/48 tanks and bombs could give you a good shape to start with.

Here is my 1/72 KGR.3 with a buddy pod on the inner right wing pylon.  Scratched up an impeller to provide the fuel transfer pump.  A cut off Matra rocked pod nose placed in the cut off tail end of the pod give a hint of a retracted basket.

Displayed next to it is a 1/72 resin after market kit from GraphyAir, with a Entendard IV buddy pod (which I believe was a copy of the Douglas buddy unit).  Sorry not available for swap/gift.

Next to that is a half of a 1/48 dumb bomb- pretty close in shape to the Entendard buddy pod.

Maybe this could give you some ideas of scratching up a few.  Baskets would be a challenge.

Good luck  - Dave

When the hoses are retracted fully into the pods many of the drogue systems fold the basket up so visually it just needs to be a notional 'shape' at the trailing edge of the pod.

Alternatively, if you use Sandiego89's idea of the modified drop tank you could cut the aft tip of the pod off and countersink the trailing end. With a bit of deft paintwork you'd have your 'basket'.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Brilliant idea Kitt and Dave, it looks like it could be the best option for me so far, as I want to make a couple of inflight refueling aircraft to work alongside my Canberra tanker.

Mate......for my 1/144 tanker build i used some 1/72 American cluster bombs....the fat ones M117 i think......cut at an angle at the rear....they already have a prop on the front......so if 1/72 i suppose a couple of 1/48 would do........i used a length of plastic rod with a representation of a basket in 1/144 for my 'thirsty little jets'.........

For sure they should be easy enough to scratch up. Some good ideas here as well. Looking forward to seeing the Canberra dio !
