Yes. As mentioned above, it is a "cultural misunderstanding". The translation is correct (and I also assumed, when I read the English manga first, that the basic color would be a deep IJN green with white trim), but in Japanese there is only one, common term for green and blue ("Aoi", AFAIK).  ;)

Ah right. Does that mean that Hasegawa got the colour scheme of the model wrong, or does one part of Japan think it should be green and the rest think it should be blue?

It's a good thing that traffic lights in Japan don't have a blue phase......  ;D

That reminds me of the alien visitor (Jeff Bridges) in Starman, describing his understanding of traffic lights.

Red             STOP.
Green         GO.
Yellow         GO FASTER.

What a great looking build! I added a J7W Shinden (just the regular Hasegawa boxing) to my Area 88 manga project as the WWII "partner" for the Grumman X-29 that Shin flies later on, but I'm debating including that or going with the XF5F Skyrocket (I keep arguing the "experimental Grumman" connection to the X-29 against the fact that Shin is my excuse to include Japanese WWII planes).

Anyway, I haven't see anyone do one up in anything other than the Japanese imperial green scheme, so this gives me inspiration that it will look good in blue/white stripes. ;)
Thanks!

There are some in German colors around, also as night fighters with antler antennae. Looks pretty cool, even though I'd personally add a second crew member in this case (but where? maybe a staggered solution as on the Do 335 trainer?).  I also came across a Shinden in Swiss(!) colors and a bubble canopy some time ago, IIRC I posted it in the "The Whifs you have found section" - but no idea where exactly...

And there's the option to create a jet-powered J7W2 - Hasegawa did that one as a separate kit with extra parts as a single box offering, and also as a part of a boxed set with a large bomber. But I find it pretty fishy, since it is basically the J7W without a propeller. I have one on the agenda, though, but with some more mods like a shorter landing gear and a different (bigger) air intake arrangement, and maybe even a bubble canopy, too.

I am not certain if this has been posted, but it's worth a repost, anyway: a Swiss(!) modified Shinden (new engine section).
