Hello all

Just back from my shopping. Went into Aldi in Chermside (Brisbane). They have an airbrush pack for sale (boxed) that contains as far as I could see:

- a compressor with attached tank and regulator valve
- a water trap
- a single action airbrush (with bottles and gravity feed)
- hoses, connectors and (I think)
- an airbrush stand

for the sum of $99.

The compressor and tank look very similar to my old Sparmax chinese job I have had for a few years now.

If you've wanted to start airbrushing but the cost has been too steep, this might be a good starting point.

As a PS Aldi also have the Airfix starter sets for $14, series 1 kits. I got the Tomahawk IIb and it is the new mould.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

nope, no airbrushes in two of the Aldis I inspected, though one of them had the Airfix Spit 1 starter kit for 12.99...and some airbrushable acrylic paint in small bottles for 2 each....didn't need anything...

I got one. Leongatha Aldi is one of the branches with a smaller clientele I think - they still have about fifteen of them.
I have no idea about other airbrushes having only ever used an Aztec, so I can't say how it compares engineering wise. I find it to be a nice robust unit, but I have limited experience in these things.
I can confirm that it is in fact sort of silverish with blackish bits.

The same batch of Aldi insanity brought out laser cut wooden kits of Cutty Sark and HMS Victory - Aldi 'Gatha has some of those left too. We're talking a branch which sometimes has these one week special things in stock for up to a year here guys.

Local Aldi, in Mount Barker, has a couple of those airbrush kits.

No price marked on them but everything else on the table is $33.

If there's one left on pay day, I may buy one to check out & have as an emergency spare..

My branch has not discounted them yet. When they do, I am under orders to buy one for my esteemed empire-riddled associate Greg. And I might buy myself a spare...

Aldi here still has 3 or 4 available, looks like someone has strip mined the Airfix starter sets though.

Allan, shame about that, maybe see if they can't haul one in from somewhere.

PW, I've had pretty OK results over the years with generic airbrushes. My first two were from SuperCheap Auto, one a single action and one a double action, both cost less that $29 (in the days when a 'real' airbrush was about $120 plus). They were Badger knock offs produced by the ubiquitous China Peoples Factory No. 3 but to ham fisted initiate like me they were unbreakable, easy to use and still working. I still have them, even though I took the plunge to a Paasche recently. When I started using an airbrush I was totally sh*te at it, usual skill / learning curve issue; first few results were worse than my hairy stick attempts but it didn't take long to flip.
