So apparently my local library has a 3d printer how to I take advantage of this ? Anyone have any experience?

I've done some 3D printing. I used a printing service rather than a DIY printer, though.
You can see some of my work here.

The basic process:
1. Draw your parts in the 3D CAD program of your choice.
2. Verify the drawing is printable, using e.g. NetFabb.
3. Load the drawing into a computer that controls the printer.
4. Specify settings for the printing process.
5. Print.

Step 4 can require trial and error. Does the library have someone who can help with that?
