For such a versatile aircraft I am surprised that no one has attempted to create a tanker version based on this aircraft.  So how about a KC-121 Constellation?  Hose and drogue units mounted under the wings and a flying boom attached under the fuselage to create an alternative to the KC-97.

Interesting idea!  I've suggested elsewhere taking the radar bumps from an EC-121 Warning Star and putting them on a C-97, so if you used a KC-97 as the basis of that, you could just swap the AAR bits back the other way.

I found that Rolling Stones one while I was looking for more info on this Minicraft-go-X-Files extravaganza:

Here's the box blurb explanation:

1/144 Scale

US Navy NC-121K

"CONNIE"

PROJECT MAGNET

"Paisano Dos"

US Navy NC-121K CONNIE "PROJECT MAGNET" One important result from Project Magnet was the discovery of peculiar magnetic forces from above the Key-West Caribbean area, commonly referred to as 'The Bermuda Triangle'. It is widely suspected that this carefully unpublicized program may have been a worldwide operation intended to detect the existence of and effects of UFO's.

The non-Fox Maulder explanation is that the aircraft were mapping the world's magnetic field in detail in support of MAD ASW operations, of course. Nevertheless, it's interesting that the aircraft's name means "Friend Two", and it was replaced by an Orion called "Paisano Tres" (Friend Three).....

From a modelling POV, note the Road Runner decals.....

Don't forget about the R7V-2/YC-121F Turbo Constellation -- radials replaced by YT-34 turboprops, essentially the same engines/props the C-133 used.

22,000shp total (up from the original 13,000hp from the radials).

And there is an FS9 version of this -- more "variants" on the way...

I came across a pair of Airfix B-29 wings and a Airfix Super Constellation which will become a Starliner tanker when it's finished.
I've the 1/72 RarePlane Boeing KG-97G in the stash to which I'll add the spare wings to.

I've got an idea to use the Connie as an early 'Harvest Hawk'.
The KC-121 would carry refueling pods under the wings and carry iron bombs on pylons fitted to the underside of the fuselage.
