Question re WW2 RAF Desert War aircraft codes

Good afternoon chaps,

A simple question - what colour are the codes on RAF Desert Airforce aircraft such as the Tomahawk, Hurricane etc, White or Sky?

Depends... The cammo was called "Tropical Land Scheme" and AFAIK some codes were also dull red, or red etched with white, or even mixed.
Depends AFAIK mostly on the specific aircraft or unit - check these for reference; could be that white was the recommended standard, though.

Thanks Dizzy -as the aircraft in question AFAIK never served with any Squadron in the Western Desert, I can use whatever I have to hand!

As Dizzy suggests being that far from home and at that stage in the War the individual squadrons got away with a bit more than they would have had a home. I've seen, and built, a Spitfire with medium blue codes outlined in white. Looks good

Just cross-checked sources - AFAIK, the "standard" color for codes on the Tropical Scheme should be Medium Sea Grey - but anything goes. more or less. Some RAF units also used their "own" typeface for the codes, or non-standard sizes of the letters, or placements of them.
