Many aircraft that where on order for the RAF or other forces were kept back when the us entered the war. Some of them went into combat, especially early on when things were really desperate, but most ended up being used for training. The Swamp Ghost at the Pearl Harbor Museum I think was originally a British contract bomber. There where also the P-400 versions of the P-39 that ended up at Henderson field. I don't think the RAF missed those.
