The U. S. Navy's airship program is alive and well in the Whiff World. The Akron and Macon are flying patrols off the coast of North America in December of 1941. Their complements of Sparrowhawk scout fighters are searching for the Imperial Japanese Navy.

This is the Williams Brothers 1/32 kit built OOB.

It's a right bugger of a kit to build, especially the motor and landing gear.

I brush-painted the thing with Pollyscale USN Blue-Gray over Light Gray acrylics.

The markings are kit and sparesbox decals.

I kinda got the idea from reading Kevin Anderson's "The Destroyermen" SF novels, which features and alternate earth, WW2, time warps, temporal castaways, exotic creatures, and a lot of combat. To quote Kirk Douglas in the movie "In Harm's Way", "It's a gut-busting, mother-loving Navy war!"

After hammering away at this one and almost binning it, I didn't feel like doing the fancy "Yellow Wings " paint job.

That's come out really well mate
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

A cracking little aeroplane, or in 1/32 scale a cracking BIG model, even if the original was tiny.

That all over blue/grey scheme suits it too.

Are you going to build an Akron or Macon in 1/32 scale to carry it???  ;) ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Lovely little aircraft.  As to hanging one under an airship, that I'd like to  see!!  Problem is, the Akron was 785 feet long. At 1/32 that's about 24foot 7 inches.  I think an extension to the modelling room might just be necessary.

It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Thats nice.  Like Kit my first thought was it needs an airship to hang from.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

In the first photo, I chucked a piece of brass rod between two cordless drills and used my desk fan to blow the propeller to simulate the Sparrowhawk on the airship trapeze. There is two inches of air underneath her wheels.

Just for the hell of it, you understand.
