Hi all,
For once, an Academy kit that isn't in abundance everywhere I look. Damn.

This is kit #12401 and I'd be grateful to hear from anyone with one going spare.

Please see post #9  :banghead:

There are a few that are tough to get, even on the shelves in Seoul, and that's one of them.  I've got one in the stash I could be persuaded to part with... but I might have stolen the jeep out of the box.  I'll have to check.  ;)
Thanks!

Bren Gun have just released a new A-36 Apache Mustang if you can't find the Academy kit.

And unfortunately that kit has the same issues as all the others apart from the Academy and perhaps High Planes: too-tall/deep fuselage, P-51D-style leading edge wing root, and apparently the lower cowling's wrong too. Those Who Know still rank the Academy kit as the best available/produced.

I won't need the jeep with what I have planned:

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I knew I had one in the stash but lo and behold on checking just in case I have 2 in the box  ;D

More then happy to put the un-boxed one (securely packaged of course) in the post to you if you want it ?

PM me and we can chat about the options. I assume you are on Paypal ?

Chris

Just looked at the postage and that's going to be the pricey part of any transaction
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

KiwiZac

Thanks Chris. Of course now I may have sorted one the offers are coming! And yes, it certainly makes living here a frustrating thing for a modeller.

Seems I may have misinterpreted/misremembered some details about my chosen subject. This from John Terrell, P-51 expert and walking encyclopaedia, on September 9:
"They've done a ton of work to make the aircraft resemble a P-51A, closer than what had been accomplished in its first restoration. Although the main fuselage and wings are still all from a P-51D, it now has an A-model type radiator scoop/doghouse section and a lot of detail work has been poured into the cockpit to present it as a stock A-model (the entire airframe was completely stripped down and restored throughout, with authentic-looking primers, paints, period-correct aluminum watermarks, inspection stamps, etc.). I saw video on Instagram posted by John Muszala II of the aircraft undergoing an engine run last week, and a photo from the cockpit on the test flight yesterday, with a hint of early Air Corps markings."

Warbird pilot Jim Harley:
"Pacific Fighters and [owner] Dusty Dowd brought her as close to a true A model as you can get"

So I guess I need a D wing after all!!!!!!!! Damn damn damn damn. Ay least the Italeri one is common and cheap.

But have they modified the D wing to the A configuration? In the pics it doesn't look as of it sweeps forward at the root as much as a D does. You need some plan view pics of the real thing really.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Exactly like that, and yes, it does look as if they used D wings.

It sill looks spectacular though.

Real world whiff, lol
;D

Kit - that it does, hence my desire to build it. Seeing it race less than a week after its first post-restoration flight was a real treat. Who knows, when they finish it - there are signs the chin guns will be installed - I may just have to do a 1/48 version too! At least the D wing means I can use the much more common Italeri kit, which I ordered last night for less than NZ$14 delivered.
