Alfa Romeo A.R.106 Series III
a/c 23-1, 1 Squadriglia, 1 Gruppo "Asso di bastoni", Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana,
Northern Italy, June, 1944
Personal mount of Luigi Gorrini

The Alfa Romeo A.R.106 was a Piaggio P.112 powered development of the Fiat RA.1050 R.C.58 Tifone (a licensed built DB 605A) powered A.R.105, itself as re-engined A.R. 102 (powered by an Alfa Romeo RA 1000 RC 41, a licensed-built DB 601 powerplant). Only 87 were built, in three Series: 34 Series Is modified from engineless A.R.105 airframes, 12 Series II completed as new with the radial engine and 43 Series III with cut-down rear fuselage and "full vision" canopy. All A.R.106s were armed with two fuselage mounted 12.76mm Breda machine guns and two wing mounted 20mm MG151/20 cannon.

Sergente Maggiore Luigi Gorrini was a top scoring Italian ace, ending the war flying this plane with 19 confirmed victories. After achieving 19 kills with the Reagia Aeronautica, Gorrini gained five more kills with 23-1 flying for the ANR: a B-17F, a B-24D, a P-38J and two P-47Ds (all USAAF). On 22 June, 1944, he was shot down by P-47Ds while flying 23-1. He bailed out but was unconscious when he landed and injured and the war in italy ended before he could resume his flying career. He summed up his career, with these words: "212 air combat, 24 solo air victories, 5 parachute jumps."

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Cool. I like the complex paint scheme a lot.

Reminds me that I also have a Japanese-Italian travesty project on the list...

Very good Comrade.

Your pics are slow to load.  A problem I am having with all those hosted by imgur.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Quite strange. Earlier today photos took a loong time to load. Now very fast.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.
