Lonewulf have released a conversion set for the 1/72nd Airfix Sea Harrier FA2 to convert it in the Sidetrack AEW version as shown in Chris Gibson's " Admiralty and AEW ".

http://www.lonewulfmodels.co.uk/search.php?c_id=0&sc_id=0&search=sidetrack&Submit.x=0&Submit.y=0#

The conversion set consists of a replacement rear fuselage as used on the two seat harriers, replacement tail surfaces, a corrected nosecone, the wing tip radar pods with the revised wing tip, outer pylon blanking plates and new inner pylons with the earlier harrier drop-tank attached.

Martin H has one underway in his in-progress thread and I have started one and found the conversion relatively straightforward with a bit of accurate cutting on well defined panel lines and cleaning up of parts to ensure a decent join.

In addition to the Side-Track harrier conversion, Lonewulf also had on display their next conversion set due out soon for the Jet Mosquito. The model master was on show and appears to be created for the Tamiya kit and appears to based upon the info in BSP-WW2.

Keep an eye on the Lonewulf Models website as I suspect that may prove to be a popular set on this forum

The finished model looks absolutely stunning. Sure would have been a nice addition to the fleet ! I think I'll have to get one !

I think I'll be very intersted in this Geoff, Just to see what Adrian has come up with.  This is because I'm in the process of building a DH.101 from drawings kindly provided by Tony Buttler.  This is a 3-View that was recently discovered along with drawings of the DH.102 and Jet Mosquito.  From what Tony told me, the Jet Mosquito is based on the DH.102 though, not the DH.98 Mosquito.

The DH.101 build is taking a bit longer than what I had thought it would do, because the only thing that the DH.101, DH.102 and Jet Mosquito have in common with the DH.98 is the cockpit canopy ---- the fuselage for them all is quite a bit different to the Mosquito and is bigger in all cases.

I'm looking at bashing one of these up myself. Not with the Lonewulf conversion just styrene and putty. Is the aft fuselage a swap or is there a plug added to lengthen it ? Not that I'm overly concerned but I'd like it to look right.

It's a swap: the instructions say to cut the fuselage 5 mm aft of the airbrake. There's also 3 new tailplanes.

Interesting -- my set just comes with a pair of new tail-planes and a fin and rudder. Is that what you meant ?

The Big Gimper

Found this on FB.

The owner of Lonewulf models, Adrian, has stated: "As I am working on another Sea Harrier project, I am also going to re-release the Sidetrack Harrier conversion as it has not been out for a while."

And these are from a follow-on email exchange I had with Adrian. I also asked him if would do Hawker P.1121 to complement the Avro 559.

Exchange 1:

Yes, I am Swalbe321. (Ebay seller ID)

I have a number of what I think are interesting ideas planned for the new range (the buying public may think differently), building up to the P.187 (that and the Type 559 are what got me interested in this period) (Alan's 559 looks very nice, will have to get one).

I am currently working on Hs.125 AEW, Gannet AEW.7, Mirage IVS and a Big Span Sea Harrier with lots more oddities planned.

I used to sell the S+M P.1121 and for some reason it was hard to shift, I still have one but I am probably going to make it.  The last couple I sold went at a loss a few years ago on ebay .

Always interested in any ideas.

All the best

Adrian

Exchange 2:

Telford is well worth a visit, I am hoping to start trading there again once I have built the range back up again.  Its a great place to meet people you only chat to online.  Plus there is a lot around, Cosford RAF Museum (Cold War Museum), Ironbridge and the Black Country historic industrial centres.

I am hoping this will be an interesting new market, some of the designs and projects are just as mad as the WWII material.  Over the past few weeks I have built up a substantial collection of reference on this period and donor kits to go along with it (luckily the wife is tolerant).

Yes, that is the Hs.125 AEW, it is likely to be a full kit, maybe with different wing options.  The full kits are worked on whilst I rattle away with smaller conversion sets so they might take a while to appear but I am hoping to get at least one ready for November (for Telford) so people can have a look at it.

The Facebook page is the best way of keeping up to date with what I am doing.

All the best

Adrian

I've always liked Adrian's Lonewulf range and have built a couple - they are on here somewhere.

He is also one of the nicest blokes out there and great to chat to when at a show  . Hope he makes Telford again.

Are those sidetrack kits still available ? Always wanted one, and I think now is time !

Hi,
I've been on Adrian's Facebook site and he says that he will dig out the moulding for the 1/72 Sidetrack AEW conversion set for the Harrier. Adrian is looking to do some new conversion sets after a two years of being away from production.
