Northrop C-125 Raider

Only previous mention I see of the C-125 is here discussing kits so I thought I'd put some notes on this subforum.

To start:

- In 1949 Canadair obtained a license to produce the Raider for all international orders.  Hmm RCAF rescue-yellow version...?

- To meet the Arctic operations requirements, BF Goodrich developed rubber blankets heated by an internal grid of electrical wires which were applied to the radio mast, leading-edge air scoops and elevator horns.

- Cancellation of a follow-on order for 30 more C-125s in 1949 cost the USAF $698,137 in penalties

-- Northrop was sued by an individual called Jack Frye who claimed he was due 1.5% royalties on the production of the C-125, and the preceding Pioneer, on account of design input he had given from 1944 onwards.  I haven't found the conclusion of the suit but naturally Northrop denied this andsaid it was a sales commission payable on Pioneers & Raiders that Mr Frye personally sold.  Mr Frye later went ahead with his own design for a bush-arliner, the four-engined Frye F-1, which in a strange coincidence was designed with the assistance of Herr Kurt Weil, designer of the Ju 52. What a small World.
