Cuba's main contribution to the UN's "humanitarian intervention" on the Korean Peninsula came in the form of the Air Task Force Bembe. Including F/A-18G Growlers from 2663 Squadron and F/A-18F Super Hornets from 2661 Squadron, supported by two EC-3C ELINT Orions and several  KC-135R tankers, the Force was tailored to serve in SEAD/DEAD roles.




On the first night of combat, 20 June, 2007, the Growlers and Super Hornets protected UN strike packages and worked together to suppress and destroy DPRK air defences. They were armed with ALARM 2 ARMs, GBU-31(V)1/B JDAMs and GBU-10 Paveway IIs for kinetic effects. Both types carried AN/ASQ-228 ATFLIR and used AIM-9X and AIM-120C for use against aerial targets (of which none were encountered).



The anomaly of Cuba using the Canadian Grey Vixen ALARM 2 instead of the American AGM-88 HARM was a legacy of Cuba's use of the original Mauve Clock ALARM on their Jaguar International SCs, which were replaced by the Super Hornet in 2004-5. CAe upgraded many of Cuba's surviving ALARMs to ALARM 2 standard, this solution being cheaper than the acquisition of AGM-88D HARMs while offering a more flexible SEAD weapon thanks to the missile's unique loitering capability.



No UN aircraft were shot down by DPRK air defences while being protected by Air Task Force Bembe.
