The Rat

Had plans for this one many years ago, but it languished, so I'm dragging it out for this GB. It's the old x 100 Lincoln Canberra, which must be as old as I am. Picked it up years ago in a consignment, can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't much. The fit isn't great, engraved panel lines would put the Matchbox trencher to shame, no interior detail, no landing gear, and the decals, described on the back as "Super Quality ARMOUR-SKIN", look to be anything but. They will not be used. I'm having a go at printing my own decals, not sure how they will look once they're on but they don't impress me right now. As I mentioned in the Skyray post, this is to be a stablemate, both included in the same alternate history scenario.

So there she is, all 14 parts with 5 more for the stand. Raised marking have been sanded down since these pictures were taken, centre section and nose glued together, canopy dipped in Future, and egregious misalignments filed down. Not pretty, but when collectors find out what I've done to it there may be an upsurge in visits to hospitals and detox centres. COOL!

Ouch. I just had a long look at a Revell box-scale B-47, which is of much the same quality, then carefully put it back in it's box to await a braver day...

Needs some touch-up paint, but the main part is done. A double blue scheme, but who will be the operator?  It will tie in to this back story: http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,45109.0.html, but won't be French. Decals have already been printed.

Double blue?
I immediately thought French.  :-\
The only other user I can think of with that combination of colours is zenrat industries...

Well that's a head-scratcher.  Someone British-aligned in the Caribbean and who wants to project a bit of air-power.

Wow, those raised markings give me shivers....brave indeed.

The markings have been sanded smooth. And this will be set after the events outlined in the other article.

This isn't easy. Applying light decals over dark paint. Paint a white circle first, apply decal, discover white circle wasn't quite large enough (even though I care measured and masked the [expletive deleted] thing), peel off decal while it's still wet, place it on an unused section of decal paper, paint circle again, reapply decal. I need a drink.

Don't know how well this will show up in the picture, but it's (obviously) the underside paint on the Canberra. But what a cool effect in real life. It's an old bottle of Gunze Sangyo 45 Light Blue, gloss, and doesn't go on evenly. But I don't care because the random pattern of shades looks great, and there's no way I'm getting rid of it. Have to write it into the back story somehow.

One of the most graceful aircraft ever built.  Nice job taking an ancient kit and making it look gorgeous!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

The Rat

Slowly but surely. One thing I've learned is that I need a lot more practice at making my own decals.

It takes a while to learn the foibles of your PC/Software/printer combination as well as sorting out the best materials too, but it can be very rewarding when you've sorted it all.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I don't know.  They are a darn sight better than my early efforts.
When I print roundels for dark schemes I also print matching outlines so i've got something exactly the right size to go under tham and stop the paint showing through.
