Brilliant Kit

Those stands come in handy don't they, I have this project I'm working on, an EV-22 for the RN (I started thinking about this after the Falklands)

I think the stands are the Frog ones, putting two together made a rather good radome -- the idea is it swings down on a pylon below the aircraft in flight, still working out how to make it work.

Oooh I like that idea! I'd forgotten those lovely curvy FROG stands, I must have some somewhere.

The worst ones were the very blocky Matchbox ones, the only thing you could build with them would be a pseudo-Star Wars fighter I reckon.

Then there were the early Revell ones with the ball joint on the top. They had a North Pole's view of the Earth moulded into the base, very geographic.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Your wonderful idea isn't far off the mark either Kit, a well know 'home-builder' designed, built and flew this:

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Well I'll be damned!  :o

And that hasn't got any real wings either! Amazing.

The guy's name is Barnaby Wainfan, he's an aerodynamicist and aero engineer. A monthly magazine I subscribed to some years ago now, was a magazine called 'Kit Planes', he had a regular slot each month where he would explain aerodynamics and such.  Not long after the F-117 became more known (being seen at airshows etc), a discussion came up in the 'Reader's Letters' section of the magazine about 'how the heck can the F-117 fly', or something along those lines. Wainfan tried to explain how it could and in the process designed and built the Facetmobile, then flew it to Oshkosh a few times. His design though was more stable to fly, as he doesn't have any computer controls in the thing to control it like the F-117 has.

That's inventive, reminds me a little of NASA's lift bodies, just with stealth features.

RAFF-35

I always thought the TSR-2 stand looked very stealth like, I'm glad someone's had the guts to follow through with it. Looks very Hopeless Diamond like. This has set my mind whirring with how I should go about doing mine now  ;D
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

Captain Canada

Fairly obvious to some, but even after reading the acronym, I still didn't figure it out until right before I clicked the link ! Too funny, and such a neat idea. Wish I was around for the vote
