The Long Midget Mustang (of 1948) was seldom used as a racer, but its ancestor Midget Twin-Mustang (of 1945) was a genuine racer:

And the Condor Shoestring racer of 1949 came from the projects Ast Shoestring and Twin-Shoestring of 1945:

No, I'm NOT thinking of a Midget Tri-Stang! I've enough trouble just doing the single Midget Mustang........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

If you finish the Midget Mustang, this will be enough, this will be great!

While I keep on dreaming about doubles...
You may know the Extra 300 was an aerobatic plane of 1987, coming from the Extra 230 of 1983 (and the Extra 250 may be later), but the best point is that this family came from the racer Extra 1000 twin-engine of 1945:

I am not (completely) crazy: there is a topic "twin-fuselage racer" at http://www.aafo.com/hangartalk/showthread.php?13196-Twin-Fuselage-Racer
(thanks Google)

That's got a bit of a 'Pond Racer' look about it, without the centre pod.

Do you remember The Everly Brothers' song "All I have to do is dream"?...
(and I prefer the twin-boom layout rather than the Pond Racer triplex boom)
