How about planes of small European countries '38 -'40 GB, eg Czechoslovakia, Switzerland
or
better Balkan Entente GB-  including Greece, Yugoslavia, Romania and Turkey?

I like "unconventional flight" for the upcoming GB as I have a dastardly plan for a aircraft that won't be able to quite do VTOL.

Thank you so much Chris for keeping up the momentum on these GB's.  As I have said before I think the formula is about perfect.

Sounds like a good idea but the vote for the subjects of the next batch of GBs will be held in May.  Suggestions can be made at that time.  I keep a list during the year so I don't forget my ideas when the time comes.

The next GB will involve flying machines of unconventional means and what is happening here is we are good naturally bickering about what we call it.

Right having returned to base I will be hopefully getting the Flying Machines of Unconventional Means GB set up in the next few days.

Now that's a name I can live with.

For some reason I'm absolutely knackered at the moment so I'm going to wait until the weekend and set the next GB up as if I try now I'm bound to screw it up. Not that waiting eliminates that risk it just reduces it.

Will it include also lighter-than-air things?
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

I certainly hope so.

My thoughts go to something like "generating lift my means other than the vehicles forward motion causing air to travel over an aerofoil surface".  Or is that overthinking it?

I wonder if I can get enough 1/72 cats to scratchbuild a man carrying cat/toast array?

The problem with the cat/toast levitation, is how to transmit the upward thrust to a vehicle. It's not easy harnessing a cat/toast combination in a way it can still rotate along its long axis.
Maybe a broom handle up the cat's a**? Obviously a broom handle with ball bearings.

I really don't know  :banghead:

Your definition for example would exclude Harrier type aircraft as once "up" their forward motion is achieved in the traditional manner. Also would your definition allow the XF5U-1 Flying Pancake to participate ? Can you tell what I'm thinking of building ?

To be honest I'm simply thinking of playing by ear and allowing anything that could be considered even slightly unusual at the time it was conceived. So VTOL/STOVL, Tilt wings, Zell types, maybe even helicopters amongst those types which were conceived and built let alone the really odd types the honourable members can come up with.

Maybe even just say types which get off the ground by methods other than the vehicles forward motion causing air to travel over an aerofoil surface ?

Seeing as i want to build my Rotodyne 2.0 then I would class all rotorcraft as unconventional.   ;)
We also need to allow for Wing in Ground Effect.

You can surgically implant a spindle down the cat's long axis but it is easier and cheaper to mount the cat in something like this...

...which has been modified with a bearing at each end that fits into the array's framework.  Re-buttering brushes and nozzles could be fitted to the bar beneath the carry handle.

Well I don't see why not.

Mind you if were living in the 19th Century I would have to had said NO  ;) ;D
