This meteor  was lined up to  be retired  and possibly  scrapped,  when it was  chosen  by the ministry of  weapons  testing and evaluation.  The aircraft  was considered more than suitable  for fitting  newly developed  radar and weapons  systems,  evaluating them and training  pilots to  use said systems  if put in to service. The instructor could  sit in either the front  or back depending upon system fitment ie Firestreak missiles and  their associated radar and targeting  equipment  up front  for training  future  Lightning pilots  for example. The aircraft  gets used every day,  regardless  of weather, and kept  mechanically  sound , but not  kept  clean  and tidy.  The Meteor  served for 15 years, from 1962  to 1977, until  it was lost from a heavy  landing which  caused  severe damage to the  fuselage  and engines. The kit is the old matchbox  NF14, which  I thought would be an easy  build,  but  it has beed a pain  to build and the paint  didn't  play ball  either.  It will do though.
