Star Trek: Phase II was a planned spinoff of Star Trek: The Original Series set to launch in 1977 but never came to pass, but the work on development was used for the first of the movies in 1978/79.
ST:TOS veteran Matt Jefferies designed a refitted U.S.S. Enterprise to be the hero ship for this lost spinoff before its cancellation. a halfway between the TV 1701 and the movie 1701 refit

The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 having completed it five year mission under Captain James T Kirk is given a experimental refit during 2270 and emerges with new experimental more powerfull engines and other improvements all over the now 20 year old spaceframe.

The new engines proved to be problematic and demed a failure and so did several older systems when it came to integrating with new technology's so the Enterprise was again taken in hand and given a full refit emerging some 18 months later, still with and new warp engine, but these also proved plaged with problems at first mostly due to the rushed nature of the depature from space dock during the "Vger" incident in 2273.
Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

There's a later episode of "Star Trek Continues" with Enterprise leaving an asteroid space dock looking like that halfway house - older spaceframe but movie engines.

It's one of the later ones without Jim Cawley as Kirk - his replacement is bloody awful and is even WORSE than Shatner.

The Enterprise for Phase 2 was redesigned completely initially. It was a totally different ship....but it has a very familiar look....
