I was somewhat familiar with the turbine locos run by Pacific Union after WW2, but the 1930s era steam turbine loco they trialed was new to me:

Now for a gratuitous and unapologetic plug for the home team. Earlier experiments weren't exactly pretty or effective but 6202 Turbomotive rocked it!    Her reversing turbine was a weak link but there was significant potential there.
