Prior to the RAF  and the Royal navy  deciding upon the F-4 phantom,  they tried out several  other offerings  from across the pond. The RAF  had on a long  term test ,two F- 105 Thunderchief's a single seater and a two  seater.  The U.K. was the only other country  to be offered  this aircraft  as it was part of America's  front line  Nuclear  bomber  force,  and  was based in numbers in  Germany  and the U.K. The RAF had studied the  aircraft  for some  time and  was more  than  interested in  getting  behind the  wheel  of one of these aircraft.  As well as being  able to  carry a  nuclear weapon  internally  at supersonic speeds,  the aircraft  could  carry  a respectable amount of  conventional stores on its wings and on a centre line  pylon.  The pilots  tasked with  testing the  two aircraft  were impressed with the speed and load carrying  capability  and the built in  gun also, but they were far from impressed by its agility,  or considerable  lack of. Another  thing that had the pilots by the seat of their  pants  was the ridiculously long  runway it needed to  both  take off and land. Something of a problem  when the RAF didn't have  runways that were as long  as the country is wide. The  powers that be actually  listened to  the test pilots  regarding the aircraft's  shortcomings,  and decided  not  to purchase the  Thunderchief,  and  continue looking.
The kit is the old Airfix  1/72nd scale one,  I built one  of these as a kid and did it OOB,  this  just  had to be an RAF  wanna be. The decals are some  Hunter  ones  I had  spare,  and  the weapons are from the spares  box. The bombs  are  not  all British 540 pounders,  as I  only  had a couple,  so some  from a B-57 were used also, as they are near enough  if you  don't  look too hard. Some  small  parts  were missing,  but  they will hopefully not  be noticed.
Cheers

I thought I had  put rhis reply  in ages ago, thankyou for all your  comments  guys, I struggled with this build  in places  as I seem to be with  most  of them down to my lack of  feeling and  movement in my fingers I  have been having.

Nice work ! Of course anything looks good in that camo tho  But the simplicity of the markings makes your point pretty well, and I love the weapons load and the white tanks are a nice touch.

Cheers !
