Hi all,
Like the previously-posted Canadair CL-215, for years I've had a soft spot for the DH.106 Comet jetliner but never found a colour scheme that appealed. Then I saw OldModels Decals' sheet for the Lockheed L.188 Electra in the colours of Tasman Empire Airways Limited, New Zealand's international airline the 1930s to 1965. So...

Airfix's really-needs-retirement DH Comet 4B, the aforementioned OldModels Decals sheet, and two random drop tanks grafted onto the wing leading edges to create a 4C (the fairing-in of which is why this kit purchase from three or more years ago was finished yesterday), and a custom mix of Tamiya acrylics to make the TEAL teal:

That looks very nice
And ye olde Airfix Comet has scrubbed up quite well too.
Now all we need is for Airfix to decide 1/144 Airliners need bringing
Up to date.

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Naff all chance of that I'm afraid. :(

I've been bending their ear about doing just that for years, and all they ever say is 'The market just isn't there to be worth the investment'. I did succeed in getting them to bring the DC9 back when I pointed out that they had the ONLY 1/144 DC9 kit on the market, but that didn't last too long sadly. Now Fly have taken over that slot and at a horrendous price too of course.

The Comet looks superb Zac, that scheme REALLY suits it very well, a great choice.

Someone way back when did those pinion tanks for the 4 and the 4C in resin and I have a couple of sets. I think they need to have a meeting with some silicone rubber pretty soon..................  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thank you gents, you're very kind! I'm pleased to have finally finished this one, and to have had it turn out so well. The two big issues were filling the fuselage-to-wing gap, and fairing in the tanks (which I just grabbed from my spares).

A friend told me today TEAL did, in fact, consider the Comet but was forced to take the Lockheed. Apparently the joke of the day was that TEAL actually stood for "Take Electras And Like it"!  ;D
