Towards the end of 1940 , Supermarine introduced a new version of the Spitfire, the MkIb . It offered many of the improvements requested by pilots , a heavier armament, improved vision for the pilot and more power .
The Ib had an uprated Merlin engine , Two 20mm hispano cannon and a cut down rear fuselage with a bubble hood , these upgrades arrived just in time for the closing stages of the Battle of Britain and also found their way to later versions of the Spitfire.

That's a neat idea, and I've never seen anything like that before.

Nice one!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Very good Andrew

You're not far off with that either, in the Morgan/Shacklady book it describes a Mk.VIII was used as the first low-back experiment.

I love it.  The mix of early and late war technology fries my tiny mind though!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
