No need to convert, just add the canards and a few other details as might spring to mind - such as a production afterburner for the Avon. But wait, there was the de Havilland DH.127 proposal, which (even in the real world) had a delta wing with downward-folding wingtips like a miniature B-70 Valkyrie. That would have needed a research prototype for sure. H'mm....  Apologies for going off-topic.
Cheers.

Oh yeah....that is gorgeous !

I agree with the Captain, the Draken looks great in that scheme.

Nice one Chris! I've always thought the Draken would have been good for the RAF, especially with an even earlier buy. That would have needed licence-production though: one of Saab's problems with exports of both the Draken and the Viggen was that they were maxed out on capacity for long periods when they were fulfilling Swedish AF orders. That's one reason why the Danes couldn't get Drakens until the early 1970s.

I have  a Viggen in the RAF  pile already  Robert so that info makes it that bit more feasible.
Chris

And you wouldn't have to change anything from what I've read. One option was for a Spey to be installed where all you need to do was change the exhaust nozzle inside of the end duct.
Spey-engined Viggen would have been kinda underpowered? The also suggested RR Olympus would have been a more suitable option.

In brackets to the caption for the Spey Viggen it says (Uprated). Another option is for an Olympus powered version, but it was quite a bit modified as was a two engine option. With the Spey, there's nothing to do to the kit except mention in the backstory it has a Spey ---- which is what Chris says he wants to do if he did it ---

Looks like the Spey is a couple of inches wider, a lot shorter, 4000lb down on dry thrust and 8000lb down in reheat compared to the RM8.

I suspect they could probably deal with the dimensions without making any external contour changes, or at least none that are visible at 1/72nd scale. You could maybe 'telegraph' the fact that the engine is different by having a different pattern of cooling air scoops on the rear fuselage or something like that.

Volvo have a history of putting bigger afterburners on RR engines (look at what they did to the Avon!) and it might be that the Spey 202's 'burner was limited in diameter to fit into the Phantom just as the Avon's was limited by the Lightning's back end but not by the Draken's.

Saab originally wanted the RR Medway for the Viggen, but it was cancelled.
