A brace of Seamasters - XP6M-1 and SP-6B

I have found a key to modelling - if you have a model you are prevaricating over, others will make progress almost without you noticing it. So while my Convair P-7 for the In the Navy group build is stalled awaiting decals, bingo! I have finished not one, but two US Navy Martin Seamaster nuclear mine-laying flying boats, one of which had lain uncompleted on a shelf for years.



Both are old Revell box-scale (1/136) kits. One is finished essentially OOB as an all-blue XP6M-1 prototype. The other is whiffed to represent a production SP-6M (P6M-2 pre-1962). The engine nacelles are totally different, wider inlets, more humped and toed out. The cockpit is completely different, and the line of the upper forward fuselage changed. The tail bullet is deeper.

The Mach 2 kit is livable with, but if your vacform is the Airmodel one, it isn't............
